Jenna Pohjonen: Program and Volunteer Director
Originally from Finland, Jenna is not new to Guatemala or life in Latin America. Before moving to Quetzaltenango and becoming the Program and Volunteer Director at Caras Alegres, she travelled in Central America and lived in Guatemala several times since 2010, most recently returning in November 2017.
After volunteering in an orphanage and serving as an International Coordinator at an education-based NGO, Jenna decided to work towards a degree that would give her more tools to work in the development sector. With that in mind, Jenna moved to Castellón de la Plana in Spain to study Peace, Conflict and Development Studies at the University of Jaume I, earning her masters degree in 2015. Jenna also holds a bachelor degree in Modern Languages and Business Studies for Management Assistants (BBA).
With a profound belief in the power of quality education and sustainable community development, she has found her place working with and for educational organizations. After graduating from the University of Jaume I, Jenna moved to the Caribbean coast in Honduras to work as a Project Manager for an educational NGO. Jenna is passionate about the work that Caras Alegres is doing in Las Rosas, Xela, and is excited to contribute her skills and experience to create equal opportunities for the children and families of the community.
