Caras Alegres, home to Happy Faces

Bienvenidos a todos!

Welcome to Caras Alegres!

Caras Alegres is a non-profit organization, working in the neighborhood of Las Rosas in the city of Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala.

Established in 2004 by Dutch founders passionate about helping some of the poorest communities in Xela, we have been working out of  Zona 5 in Las Rosas, serving approximately 70 to 80 families. Everyday, our after school program creates a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for children. The program provides a variety of activities such as: arts & crafts, playing games, building relationships with others, as well as practicing positive behaviors and attitudes.  Read on to learn more about us.

Las Rosas, Quetzaltenango

Las Rosas, located in Zona 5 of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, is an impoverished neighborhood where many of our families live at or below the poverty line.  There is a history of alcoholism, early marriage, and domestic violence. Health care in Las Rosas is accessible but the residents here do not have the sufficient income to cover the cost of their medical expenses. In many cases children do not receive the proper education because they  leave school early in order to contribute to the family income.  Often, a single mother is supporting a family of her children as well as other relatives.

We work in this neighborhood with a goal to serve these families, approximately 70 to 80, and help to better their experience, providing opportunities to the families and children that may not otherwise be available to them.
